The 7-pin connector (ISO 1724 standard) is the most widely used solution for car trailers and light trailers across Spain and Europe. It transmits the 7 basic electrical functions: left and right rear position lights, left and right indicators, brake light, earth and reverse. We supply both sockets (female, vehicle side) and plugs (male, trailer side) in PVC and aluminium.

13-pin sockets and plugs for caravan and modern trailers

The 13-pin connector (ISO 11446 standard) is mandatory for caravans and modern trailers in many European countries and is increasingly common on new vehicles. In addition to the 7 basic lighting functions, it provides interior caravan power supply (permanent 12V), auxiliary battery charging and refrigerator supply. We also stock 13-pin sockets and plugs in PVC.

7 to 13 pin and 13 to 7 pin adapters

If your vehicle is fitted with a 13-pin socket but your trailer or caravan has a 7-pin plug (or vice versa), a conversion adapter allows connection without modifying the existing installation. We supply adapters in both directions (7→13 and 13→7), complete with protective cap to safeguard the contacts when not in use.

Replacement seals and rubber adapters

The connector sealing gasket is a wear component that should be checked periodically, especially on vehicles exposed to outdoor conditions. A damaged seal allows moisture ingress, leading to contact issues and corrosion. We supply replacement rubber seals for the most common socket bases in our catalogue.

PVC or aluminium? How to choose the right connector material

PVC connectors are the standard option for general use. They are lightweight, cost-effective and suitable for most car trailer and caravan installations. Aluminium connectors provide greater mechanical strength and impact resistance, making them the recommended option for agricultural, construction or heavy-duty applications where the connector may be exposed to frequent impacts or mechanical stress.

Frequently asked questions about trailer connectors and adapters

What is the difference between a 7-pin and a 13-pin connector?

The 7-pin connector transmits the basic rear lighting functions (position, brake, indicators and reverse). The 13-pin connector adds 6 additional pins for caravan interior power supply, auxiliary battery charging and fridge operation. If you tow a standard cargo or agricultural trailer, a 7-pin connector is sufficient. For caravans with electrical equipment inside, a 13-pin connector is required.

Are 7-pin and 13-pin connectors compatible?

Not directly. A 7-pin plug does not fit into a 13-pin socket and vice versa. To connect different standards, you need a conversion adapter, available in our adapters section. The adapter ensures compatibility without altering the electrical installation.

When should I replace the connector rubber seal?

The sealing rubber should be replaced when it begins to lose elasticity, crack or show visible deformation. A deteriorated seal allows moisture ingress, causing corrosion of the contacts and intermittent lighting faults on the trailer. It is recommended to check it at the start of each season, especially for vehicles stored for extended periods.

Are these connectors suitable for trucks?

How do I correctly install a trailer socket base?

The socket base (vehicle side) is fixed to the bumper or rear structure using screws. The vehicle wiring loom is connected to the internal terminals following the ISO colour coding standard (earth = white, left position = yellow, right position = green, brake = red, left indicator = black, right indicator = orange, reverse = blue).
